Letter - 5 March 1916 - moving to Western Frontier tomorrow

Athol writes a short note home to mother from Mersa Matruh (scroll down to post of 19 February for map showing Mersa Matruh). He is about to leave, with the 2nd Camel Company, to the Western Frontier.

You will note on the envelope the red triangular stamp which indicates the letter has been 'passed by censor'. The franking stamp is dated 7-iii-16. It is one of the few envelopes which is has not be forwarded and retains the original address for his mother c/f Commercial Bank of Australia, Collins Street, Melbourne.

Dear Mater,

Just a line to let you know everything is A1. We move out tomorrow going West.

We move with a mounted brigade but for the first 80 miles or so we don't expect any trouble and after that it is problems a treat.

We have only had one man go sick so far and that only collywobbles. So you see that we lead a pretty healthy life.

We take a wireless outfit. I'm writing this in the P.O. and in everybody's road so I'll shut.

Love to Pater and anyone I know.

Yours lovingly,

Athol
